DALLAS, Jan. 8, 2020 – Cooler winter weather calls for a super-cool deal launching this week at the Dallas Zoo. From Jan. 6 to Feb. 29, guests can visit Texas’s oldest and largest zoo for just $8 per person during Penguin Days Presented by Highland Capital Management. (Children age 2 and younger and Dallas Zoo members are always free.)
“Highland Capital Management has been a longtime supporter of the zoo, contributing to a number of different programs over the years,” said James Dondero, co-founder and president of the Highland Capital Management platform. “Penguin Days enables us to extend that support to the broader North Texas community. We are proud to help expand access through discounted admission, and enable families who may not otherwise visit the zoo to experience this great institution in an affordable way.”

Bundle up and come see many of the zoo’s animals (weather permitting, of course), and take advantage of indoor learning areas like the Herpetarium, Bug U!, the Jake L. Hamon Gorilla Conservation Research Station, the Highland Hippo Hut and the Simmons Safari Base Camp.
Highland Capital Management is also the presenting sponsor of the Dallas Zoo Membership Program and one of the zoo’s Signature Partner donors. The firm has supported the zoo as a corporate partner for over 10 years.
Penguin Conservation Initiatives
The Dallas Zoo is deeply committed to saving the African penguin. The Zoo’s bird supervisor Kevin Graham is leading a massive effort to protect the endangered bird across coastal South Africa. African penguins have faced a 99-precent drop in population because they can’t safely protect their eggs; there’s roughly 13,300 breeding pairs left.
After years in the making, and extensively testing various prototypes, Graham has successfully engineered an artificial nest for the penguins to use to properly safeguard their eggs. So far the team has placed more than 2,000 nests on the beaches of South Africa and chicks are already hatching.
